PSHE

WATERHEAD ACADEMY

Curriculum Overview: PSHE (Years 7–11)

We utilise a comprehensive package of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) provision known as Jigsaw. Jigsaw PSHE Ltd is a North Devon-based company, established in 2013, working with schools across the UK and in 30+ countries.

What does Jigsaw 11–16 cover?

Jigsaw's spiral curriculum covers:

  • All the outcomes in the DfE statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) guidance.

  • All the outcomes in the PSHE Association Programmes of Study.

  • All set within an inclusive, comprehensive and holistic whole-school PSHE Programme.

The "Big Question" Approach: Each thematic unit (referred to as a "Puzzle") features a Big Question, encouraging a philosophical approach and giving students a focus to reflect upon. This serves as a method to assess learning progress and highlight how student opinions evolve with added knowledge. All statutory requirements for RSHE are met across the entire 11–16 programme.
