Year 7 Curriculum Intent

Year 7 gives pupils an introduction to high frequency language and grammatical structures that will be revisited time and again throughout the KS3 &KS4 spiral curriculum. The year is designed to allow pupil to express themselves on a range of topics relevant to themselves and their lives. Pupils will be able to give information about themselves and others, use a range of structures, and give justified and personalised opinions. Culture is featured heavily throughout KS3 and we would expect pupils to be gaining confidence with phonics through year 7.

In year 8 pupils begin to see more tenses, they are using and building upon their prior knowledge from last year. They are seeing more grammatical structures and taking part in more transactional activities. The tenses and structures pupils are using are high frequency language that will be revisited time and again throughout the KS3 &KS4 spiral curriculum. The year is designed to revisit prior learning, add motre knowledge and deepen pupils understanding of language and promote more independence. Culture is featured heavily throughout KS3 and we would expect pupils to be reasonably competent with phonics by year 8.

The year is designed to revisit prior learning, add more topic specific knowledge and deepen pupils understanding of language and promote more independence. Culture is featured heavily throughout KS3 and we would expect pupils to have a fairly solid grasp of phonics by year 9.
