We are committed to giving our young people an exciting and enjoyable curriculum through the thrill of being part of a team and performing. This will be structured through opportunities to implement GCSE objectives of planning, creating, performing, reviewing, analysing and evaluating from Year 7 through to Year 11 in order to develop confidence in students.
Drama at Waterhead Academy will develops students’ creativity, leadership skills, individuality as well as the recognition of understanding of culture, diversity, time and place. We also aim to foster a lifelong love of performance arts both as performers and part of an audience.
YEAR 7

Greek Drama, Choral speaking, Masks, Tragedy, Comedy, 21st Century Theatrical Performances · Explore the Genre of Greek Drama; history; masks, choral speaking; Tragedy; Comedy · Identify and apply choral speaking techniques · Develop Drama skills in voice and movement in relation to Greek Drama · Develop students’ abilities in devised and scripted work · Apply knowledge of Genre to devise a performance of a “Greek Myth” or a funny poem, or a response to a topic · Develop the ability to review, to analyse and to evaluate their own and others’ work and contribute towards group and class discussions |

Mime & Movement · Explore Mime with reference to “The Kid” by Charlie Chaplin and other practitioners · Identify, explore and make creative use of Charlie Chaplin’s work and other mime practitioners (Marcel Marceau and Rowan Atkinson) · Develop the ability to work in small groups and independently from the teacher · Develop their knowledge about gestures, body language and facial expressions and learn to improvise · Apply knowledge of Genre to devise own mime sequences · Develop the ability to review, to analyse and to evaluate their own and others’ work |
